Songs That Rock My World: The Lust of the Flesh, the Eyes, and the Pride of Life
I’ve been trying several different philosophies on which days to post, what times, etc. At least for the next few weeks, I think I’d like to feature on Mondays “Songs that Rock My World.” Music plays a huge part in my life and currently I have about 6,000 songs on my iPod. Of those, I’m going to pick a few that really mean a lot to me: songs I go back to when I need some extra encouragement in my life. Some of these songs disciple me, encourage me, reprove me, and cheer me up. Hopefully they’ll be a blessing to you as you discover them as well.
The first song on the list is an old one. It’s from a group you may never even have heard of…. The 77’s. I’ve got to be completely honest. This song today is really the only song I’ve ever listened to from them. However, it’s a great one. It’s based on 1 John 2:16. We all know and many of us have preached that the lust of the eyes, the lust of the flesh and the pride of life are contrary to God’s will for our life. But what amazes me is that even though I know and have taught others these principles…. they keep creeping up in my life! I’m constantly reminded of how much my desire to please myself, my desire to feel important, my desire to be respected, and my desire to have all I want keeps popping up. Many times I don’t even realize it.
This song is a great reminder though. Its catchy tune gets stuck in my head and I think sometimes the Holy Sprit starts playing this record in my mind when issues start cropping up in my life. The recording itself isn’t that great, but I love getting out my guitar and playing it for myself. Check it out and let me know what you think.
